Cholesterol Medicine is Important

Cholesterol is mainly produced by the liver (about 80%), with the rest coming from different food products eaten every day.

There are three types of cholesterol:

* Good cholesterol, high-density lipoproteins (HDL) * Bad cholesterol, low-density lipoproteins (LDL) * Extremely bad cholesterol, very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL)

Cholesterol Medicine

Statins, bile acid resins, nicotinic acid, and fibrates are some medicines that will help reduce cholesterol levels. Most cholesterol medicine is prescribed; however, there are some that can be purchased over the counter. This practice is not advised without the full knowledge of your cholesterol level and the guidance of a medical professional.

Combating high levels of cholesterol, or maintaining the right level for you, can be done through your diet. A dietitian or your doctor would be the best persons to approach for a detailed report on what is most suitable for you.

Foods High in Cholesterol

* Poultry * Eggs - mostly the egg yolk. You can always opt for an all egg white omelet * Meat * Shell fish

Although all the above products have high cholesterol, eating them in moderation and keeping a regular check on your cholesterol level should not stop you from enjoying them.

Sometimes cholesterol medicine is administered to maintain the levels, rather than drop them. Speak to your doctor to learn about your cholesterol and which cholesterol medicine is right for you.

When we fail to pay attention to the details, our health can easily be compromised. Take time to understand the functions of your body and what you can do in your day-to-day routine in order to maintain in good healthy shape.
