Blood pressure lower than 120/80 mm Hg is considered “normal,” and the term “low blood pressure” is relative. Low blood pressure is generally considered dangerous when it drops suddenly or is accompanied by symptoms, such as dizziness or fainting. Severely low blood pressure can indicate serious heart, endocrine or neurological disorders and can deprive the brain and other vital organs of oxygen and nutrients, leading to shock, which can be a life-threatening condition.

Symptoms of low blood pressure to watch for include:

    *Dizziness or lightheadedness
*Fainting (called syncope)
*Lack of concentration
*Blurred vision
*Nausea
*Cold, clammy, pale skin
*Rapid, shallow breathing
*Fatigue
*Depression
*Unusual thirst
There is no specific number at which blood pressure is considered too low. Most doctors consider chronically low blood pressure dangerous only if it causes noticeable signs and symptoms. However, a sudden fall in blood pressure can be dangerous — even a change of just 20 mm Hg can cause dizziness or fainting. Some rapid falls in blood pressure indicate a deeper underlying problem such as uncontrolled bleeding, severe infections or allergic reaction.

Blood is circulated through the arteries and veins to all the parts of our body. The pressure by which the blood pushes against the arteries’ walls is known as the “blood pressure”. Whenever the heart beats it pumps blood into the arteries.

The heart beats 60 to 70 times per minute at rest condition.

As the heart beats while pumping the blood, the pressure of the blood rises and this is known as “systolic pressure”. The pressure of the blood falls between the heart beats when the heart is at rest condition and this is known as “diastolic pressure”. Both the systolic pressure and diastolic pressure are important. They are symbolized as (systolic pressure/diastolic pressure) mmHg, such as 110/70 mmHg. The pressure of blood is measured in millimeters of mercury (mm Hg)

It’ll vary during the whole day. When we sleep it stays lowest. But the pressure rises as we get nervous, excited, or active. When one or both the systolic-pressure and the diastolic-pressure of somebody rise above the normal we say that he has high blood pressure. This can cause coronary heart disease which may result in heart attacks, strokes, heart failure and bleeding from several parts of our body. It can even damage one’s kidney.

High blood pressure can be seen in children as well as in adults. But mainly it is common for people over the age of 35.

Those who have diabetes mellitus, gout or some other disease they have the chances of having higher blood pressure.

Bloods pressure is generally categorized into optimal, normal, high normal and excessive high or hypertensive.

High blood pressure is also known as hypertension. There are no certain symptoms of hypertension. But treatment is required whenever the pressure rises above the normal. High systolic blood pressure is completely responsible for various heart complications such as heart attack, stroke and heart failure mainly for aged people. The systolic pressure can rise even when the diastolic pressure is normal. This condition is known as isolated systolic hypertension. It is easy to predict with high diastolic pressure that it will cause diseases like heart attack and stroke in youths and adults. Above 90% ofall attacks are of primary hypertension which is also known as essential or idiopathic hypertension.

About 5% of high blood pressure comprises of secondary hypertension. Pregnancy Induced Hypertension generally occurs during pregnancy. Millions and millions of people over the world are affected by this High blood pressure. People, those who are heavy drinkers and women who used to take birth control pills have a huge chance for falling victom of rising blood pressure. It may also be heredity. Nowadays there are also a variety of medical accessories available for the diagnosis and monitoring of blood pressure.

Patients are generally treated with rest and often with drug therapy, as soon as they are diagnosed with high blood pressure.

Satins are pharmacuetical drugs that work by restricting the enzyme HMG CoA reductase. This is an enzyme which regulates how fast a rate cholesterol is produced in the body. By slowing down production of this enzyme, statins are able to lower LDL cholesterol levels more efficiently than many of the other cholesterol drugs on the market.

Actually, some studies have concluded that these cholesterol-lowering drugs can lower bad cholesterol by up to 60%, which can be good news for people with highly raised LDL-cholesterol. Some studies have also shown that Statins may contribute to lowering triglyceride levels and even slightly raising HDL cholesterol levels.

The statins most used today are lovastatin (Merck’s Mevacor), pravastatin (Pravachol), fluvastatin (Lescol), atorvastatin (Lipitor from Pfizor) and simvastatin (Zocor). All the aforementioned benefits make statins among the most commonly used drugs for lowering cholesterol. The pharmacuetical company Merck is even trying to get approval from the FDA to sell their cholesterol drug Mevacor over the counter

If you take statins to lower your cholesterol, you can expect to see results in a few weeks. You need to take your medications with food, at night.

Although statins have less adverse side effects than many other cholesterol-lowering drugs, some patients may experience cramps, gas, stomach upset, constipation and other digestive problems. In many cases, these symptoms go away by themselves or at least become less severe as the body adjusts to the statins. In some case, your doctor may suggest taking a lower dosage in order to control side effects.

More serious problems from statins include the risks of muscle problems and liver complications. Such issues are quite rare in patients who take statins, but if you notice any pain or unusual symptoms while taking statins, you will want to seek medical help right away.

High blood pressure is called the silent killer because it usually has no symptoms. High blood pressure is dangerous because it makesthe heart work too hard and contributes to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). High blood pressure is a problem that won’t go away without treatment and changes to your diet and lifestyle.

Risk

It raises the risk of stroke and heart disease, which are the first- and third-leading causes of death among Americans. An elevation of the systolic and/or diastolic blood pressure increases the risk of developing heart (cardiac) disease, kidney (renal) disease, hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis or arteriosclerosis), eye damage, and stroke (brain damage). The higher the diastolic blood pressure the greater the risk for heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure.

The risk of high blood pressure (hypertension) increases with age. Regular exercise can help prevent high blood pressure, which reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. To reduce the risk of injury while exercising, start slowly.

People who take illegal drugs like amphetamines and cocaine or drink a lot of alcohol are also at risk of developing the condition. High Blood Pressure and smoking are major risk factors for having a heart attack or stroke later in life. People who manage their high blood pressure with a treatment program lower their risk of having serious complications as they get older.

Elevated blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease, the main cause of death in the United States. According to research studies, the risk of dying of a heart attack is directly tied to blood pressure, primarily systolic hypertension. The higher your blood pressure, the higher your risk, even with blood pressure in the normal range.

High blood pressure also raises the risk of “embolism:” the formation of tiny abnormal blood clots that form when blood flow is abnormal and can lodge in an assortment of inopportune locations including the brain. If your blood pressure is greater than 120/80, and you have other risk factors, like diabetes, you may need treatment. Have your blood pressure checked at each regular health care visit, or at least once every 2 years (people without diabetes or other risk factors for heart disease).

Treatment

Treatment begins with changes you can make to your lifestyle to help lower your blood pressure and reduce your risk of heart disease . The key for any highblood pressure treatment is to bring the condition under proper control. If your blood pressure is often greater than 140/90, you may need treatment. Blood Pressure Treatment Usually Fails: More than 43 million Americans have high blood pressure (hypertension), but less than one-third of them have achieved targeted levels of blood pressure.

REMEMBER THESE KEY POINTS The biggest problem with treatment of high blood pressure is not a lack of knowledge about it, but a lack of the application of our current knowledge. However, high blood pressure is easily detectable and usually can be controlled. Uncontrolled high blood pressure is indirectly responsible for many deaths and disability resulting from heart attack, stroke, and kidney failure.

Cholesterol is one of the body’s fats. Cholesterol levels in the blood rise slightly with age, and women generally have a higher HDL-cholesterol level than men. Cholesterol is also found in the blood circulation of humans. Cholesterol is naturally present in cell walls or membranes everywhere in the body, including the brain, nerves, muscles, skin, liver, intestines, and heart.

Having too much cholesterol in the blood is not a disease in itself, but can lead to the hardening and narrowing of the arteries in the major vascular systems. When the cholesterol level is measured in a blood sample, the levels of all forms of cholesterol can be calculated. The cholesterol in a person’s blood originates from two major sources; dietary intake and liver production. Dietary cholesterol comes mainly from meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products. High cholesterol is the best known of all the many threats to a healthy heart. High cholesterol can cause the formation and accumulation of plaque deposits in the arteries. A person’s lifestyle, including inactivity, obesity and eating a high-fat diet, can contribute to high levels of total cholesterol.

People who smoke and also have high cholesterol are at even greater risk for heart disease. Food cholesterol comes exclusively from animal products: meat, eggs, milk products, butter, etc. Most people wrongly believe that the cholesterol contained in food is responsible for their high cholesterol levels. Lipid disorders are more common in men than women. Excess cholesterol in the bloodstream can be harmful and lead to a condition in which fat and cholesterol are deposited in the walls of the arteries. It is currently recommended that your total cholesterol level be less than 200mg/dl.

A healthy diet, regular exercise and other lifestyle changes can go a long way toward reducing high cholesterol. Sometimes medication is needed, too. Statins block a substance the liver needs to make cholesterol. This depletes cholesterol in the liver cells, which causes the liver cells to remove cholesterol from the blood.

Prevention of High Cholesterol

• Eating a diet low in saturated fats and cholesterol may help prevent high cholesterol and triglyceride levels. • Quitting smoking and exercising may raise levels of “good” HDL cholesterol. • Maintaining a healthy weight - or losing weight, if necessary - can help prevent lipid abnormalities. • Eliminate the use of caffeine, alcohol and tobacco. Home Remedies for High Cholesterol • Garlic is a wonder drug for heart. Clinical trials have shown that fresh garlic and garlic supplements may lower cholesterol levels, prevent blood clots, and destroy plaque. • Arjuna is a coronary vasodilator. It protects the heart, strengthens circulation, and helps to maintain the tone and health of the heart muscle. • Ginger reduces cholesterol and thins the blood improving circulation. • Shudh Shilajit was found to lower serum cholesterol, liver cholesterol, serum triglycerides and serum phospholipids in test subjects feed high cholesterol diet. • Sunflower seeds are extremely beneficial, as they contain linoleic acid that helps in reducing the cholesterol deposits on the walls of arteries. You just need to modify your cooking style a bit and substitute sunflower seeds for solid fats such as butter and cream. • Incorporate loads of fiber in your meals, as fiber helps a great deal in lowering the cholesterol pressure in blood.

High cholesterol is a problem for many adults, and can lead to complications like high blood pressure, heart disease, and even death. If you have high cholesterol, it is essential that you work to get it down right away.

The easiest way to do this is through your diet. Foods that are high in saturated fats can greatly contribute to the amount of cholesterol that you have. This includes fried foods, fattier cuts of meats, different cheeses, and processed foods like cookies, cakes, and cold cuts.

Cutting back on these foods may be all that it takes for some people to lower their cholesterol. Others may have to go on a more stringent diet. A stricter diet plan often calls for lower saturated fat and cholesterol. This will usually require that fewer than 7% of the calories that you eat come from saturated fat (approximately 140 in the average 2000 calorie diet). It also requires you to eat fewer than 300 mg of cholesterol a day. The plan may also require you to limit the amount of calories that you eat in a day, since being overweight can influence your cholesterol levels.

If diet alone does not change your cholesterol enough to bring it back down to normal ranges, your doctor may advise you to start taking a medication to help you with bringing it down. Exercise is also a common part of cholesterol-lowering routines.

When you are considering controlling your cholesterol with a diet plan, there are two “super foods” that you should consider adding to your diet. One is fish, and the other is fiber.

Fish is a good choice for anyone that is looking for a healthier diet. High in protein, it can be used as a substitute for fattier red meats as one of your protein choices. Fatty and cold water fish also contain omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3s have a variety of health boosting benefits. One of these is the fact that Omega 3s ca help with your cholesterol problems. Omega 3s naturally boost your HDL cholesterol level. HDL cholesterol is the cholesterol that is carried away from your heart to the liver where it can be used, which in turn helps and prevents heart disease. This can help you naturally lower the levels of bad cholesterol, bring down your blood pressure, and reduce your risk of clots that could cause heart attacks or strokes.

Fiber is good for a healthy diet as well. Found in fruits, grains, and vegetables, it helps to keep your digestive system regular, fill you up, and provides nutrition. Increasing the amount of fresh foods that you eat and decreasing the amounts of fatty meats can go a long way to lowering your cholesterol. Fresh fruits and veggies also contain high levels of the nutrients needed to boost good cholesterol levels so that your body can fight off high cholesterol problems naturally. Some grains, like oatmeal, have even been shown to have cholesterol-reducing effects when eaten on a regular basis.

A few simple changes may be all that you need to help bring your cholesterol to a healthy level.

I did know of the cholesterol-saturated fat position as the cause of heart disease during the time I was a graduate student in the biochemical sciences. I followed the main line of thought and for years pursued a low fat diet.

But I didn’t know the conclusions of Ancel Keys, his fellow researchers, and supporters were challenged by many other scientists in the scientific literature.

Although I had access to the scientific literature, yet I didn’t know some scientists described different causes for the modern nutritional diseases of:
• obesity and insulin resistance,
• adult onset diabetes,
• heart disease,
• stroke, and
• cancer.

Certainly main stream Americans would have no way of knowing that dietary cholesterol and saturated fat are not the cause of heart disease and the other modern nutritional diseases according to many physicians and scientists.

Scientific literature is just unavailable to most Americans from the stand point of cost, a tremendous investment in time, and understanding the jargon of scientific literature.

I have never heard the media present both sides of the diet-heart controversy, which is that saturated fat and cholesterol are not the cause of heart disease. Could it be because the food processing and pharmaceutical drug industries give the media an unending supply of advertising dollars?

Has the love of money and power driven this country in a very unfortunate nutritional path that has led to increasing disease and ill health? It has almost destroyed the family farm, and has given us inferior products that contribute to our ill health.

This controversy has been effectively silenced in mainstream America by the bombardment of advertising carrying only the message of the drug and food manufacturing companies.

A Prescription For Knowledge

An East Texas cardiologist, Peter Langsjoen M.D., gave me a “prescription” for 3 books on a routine follow up visit. One book was Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon with Mary Enig Ph.D., which has an impressive array of recipes based on nutrient rich traditional foods. There are many references and editorials that proclaim the wisdom of nutrient rich traditional foods.

A second book was The Modern Nutritional Diseases.by Drs. Fred and Alice Ottoboni. The Ottobonis are retired Public Health Service scientists who for years have been concerned with disease and its prevention. Their consideration of this area was through a health warning to one of them.

The last book was The Cholesterol Myths EXPOSING THE FALLACY THAT SATURATED FAT AND CHOLESTEROL CAUSE HEART DISEASE by Uffe Ravnskov, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Ravnskov is a practicing physician and researcher who delved into the literature and discovered there was little or no correlation of saturated fat and cholesterol with heart disease in the original data of the many studies in this area.

It didn’t take long in reading these and other resources to realize I was one of the many who had been duped into following a faulty diet for years. I finally understood the differences between nutrient rich traditional foods and modern examples of food manufacturing many of which have lots of calories but few nutrients.

A recent study shows that more than one third of American adults are at risk of coronary disease because of high blood cholesterol, according to the New York Times. The researchers reported that 60 million Americans over 20 years old have cholesterol levels high enough to require “medical advice and intervention.”

LDL cholesterol, or “bad” cholesterol, as it is sometimes referred to, is produced by the liver and circulates in the blood. It slowly accumulates on the inner walls of your arteries, which nourish your heart and brain. It contributes to the formation of a hard substance called plaque that can actually block the flow of blood in your arteries and make them less flexible. This in turn puts your circulatory system at risk. If a clot forms, it can cause a heart attack. If it travels to the brain, it can cause a stroke.

What can you do to improve your health? Prescription medications can help, but they are costly. Dietary changes will improve your cholesterol over time, but you have to stick with them; which means cutting out some of your favorite foods altogether. Foods that are high in fats from animal sources, like fried foods and fatty meats, directly raise your cholesterol. Also, diets high in simple carbohydrates and sweets can also contribute to high LDL cholesterol levels. Some studies even show that stress is linked with high LDL levels due to the body’s chemical response to stressful situations.

How can you improve your LDL cholesterol levels by adding something to your dietary habits, rather than taking something away? Beta-sitosterol is a natural plant phytonutrient that has been shown to reduce harmful LDL cholesterol levels. It is a natural compound found in pecans, pumpkin seeds, soybeans and rice. It is clinically proven to reduce the body’s absorption of cholesterol.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study that reported a 42-percent decrease in absorbed cholesterol when a subject took beta-sitosterol before eating scrambled eggs.

Beta-sitosterol appears to inhibit cholesterol production in the liver as well. Beta-sitosterol actually breaks down an enzyme that is key in the production of harmful LDL cholesterol. The body naturally produces more cholesterol than a person normally consumes. A big part of your cholesterol numbers is determined by heredity. You inherit some of your cholesterol problem from your parents, but a natural plant phytonutrient may be powerful enough to counteract a part of that problem, according to recent medical testing.

So, if you aren’t interested in wolfing down piles of rice and soybeans before every meal, what can you do to incorporate Beta-sitosterol in to your everyday routine to improve your cardiovascular health? Thankfully, supplements are available. Taking care of your ticker is now as simple as taking an herbal supplement before your meal. Hopefully, the supplements will help you avoid the unwanted side effects, financial burden and physical stress on your body that comes with prescription cholesterol medications.

You should combine your beta-sitosterol supplements with a heart-healthy diet and exercise for maximum results. Just losing 5 to 10 pounds may dramatically reduce your LDL cholesterol levels. Little changes in your daily routine will make a big difference in your long-term health. Try walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator at work or ordering veggies instead of French fries at lunch. Combine these changes with the addition of a beta-sitosterol supplement and you’ll be well on your way to a happier and healthier future.

America has been saturated by ingenious pharmaceutical ads for years that are designed to delude us into believing a total lie; a lie that has absolutely no truth to it; a lie which has killed and destroyed numerous innocent Americans. Americans who put their trust in what the media said, through ads and news stories, in the name of modern medical science.

I myself bought into this lie until I learned the truth. The lie, my friends, is that high cholesterol is dangerous and must be lowered. This lie has been put in front of your eyes, and spoken into your ears so many times with no filter of truth. How could you do anything else but believe what you were told.

Guess if you can, who taught them this trick? Two of the biggest liars and killers to ever walk the earth. Here is their technique and their names: “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it” Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi Propagandist. “A lie told often enough becomes truth” Vladimir Lenin, founder of the Russian Communist Party. This type of mass media manipulation is a horrendous misuse of freedom of speech that treats us like sheep to be sheared and no one is complaining.

Here is an easy way to tell how deep this brain washed belief is. Tell someone that your cholesterol is over 300 and watch the look on their face. They will give you a look of combined shock, horror and pity as though you had just been given a death sentence. They will say “Oh poor you, are you on a medication.” I have done this to classes I teach more than once, and some of the same students, I explained the truth too, still have the same reaction. I find this very shocking and scary.

Even after I had explained in detail that a person with high cholesterol levels can be perfectly healthy, they still reacted in the same way. You may be wondering, “Well I thought that high cholesterol is dangerous.” No, high cholesterol is not dangerous and never has been. What you heard over and over again is a flat out lie, a lie that makes 20 billion dollars a year for the medical and pharmaceutical industry. Oh, and lets not forget the media, they made a bundle off of this lie also.

Here is their basic hypothesis as I, a non-scientist, understand it. “If you eat too much cholesterol it floods your blood stream and tissues. As the cholesterol moves from the tissues through artery and vessel walls it sticks there forming plaque.”

In my personal opinion it does not make sense. It does not explain why the cholesterol would form this plaque. There is a scientist who explained why the plaque forms and it has nothing to do with a high level of cholesterol. Dr, K. McCullick was nominated for a Nobel Prize for discovering what causes cholesterol plaque and hardening of the arties. He found that the blood becomes acidic on a diet low in produce (alkali foods), and high on intake of meat, grains, and dairy (acid foods). Under these acidic conditions the body will harden the arteries to protect itself from acidic blood that eats holes through the arteries. This same hardening state can cause cracks to appear in the arties because your arteries flex. Your body’s answer to this is to line the inside of the arteries with cholesterol (causing high blood pressure due to high cholesterol) to seal these cracks up as they form.

We have seen the rise of a new scientific experimental methodology. They take the studies of a physical phenomenon like high cholesterol, and even though they did not prove their disease hypotheses, they will say that they did. It is the worst kind of hypocrisy, and I hate to say it, but it has become a common practice in medical science.

Then when the scientists, who know the facts, stand-up to tell the truth, those who value money above truth slander and deride them. This was done to Professor Uffe Ravnskov who looked at the studies and saw the lie. When he announced it to the media, they pulled him down for it. He ended up writing a book with the facts for all to see so that the truth could not be denied “The Cholesterol Myths.” If your doctor has put you on this abomination, or is trying to, I suggest you read this book, it could save your life.

A few last words regarding this lie; the statin medications they are handing out to treat a condition, that does not need treating, are dangerous. Here are a few of the side effects: muscle pain, muscle damage, liver failure, kidney failure, nerve damage, nightmares, memory loss, cognitive dysfunction, and other central nervous system problems. If you want off these drugs tell your doctor to help you. If that doctor won’t help you fire him and find one that will. Change your life style! That is the real key to stopping arterial sclerosis.
